Happy NEW Year!!!

New Year As you know I DO NOT believe in new year resolutions as statistics show they do not work!!!  I have 2 challenges for you:

1.  Be happy NOW – not 10lbs from now (appreciate your body TODAY and tell the universe your goal weight with ease)
2.  Write down FIFTY things you and your family want to accomplish this year

Ben and I have done this for the past 2 years.  I just busted out our 2013 & 2014 sheets & it’s super fun to look back at what we wrote, accomplished & what we still need to work on.  The goals can be anything from health, fitness, vacation, personal financial to family time & more laughs.

Happy New Year!!!  CHEERS to amazing health & fitness in 2015!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

2012 is coming to a close & 2013 is right around the corner.  End 2012 right with a kick butt workout & ring in 2013 with a run/hike/walk & 4 x 10 burpee’s.  40 burpee’s will get that heart pumpin’, your energy flowing & your outlook for the new year started on the right foot.

If you have been training with me or know me well enough you know that I don’t like new years resolutions simply because they do not work.  Growing up each year I set my hopes high to stop biting my finger nails…And guess what??  YEP I still do!  Now I have to say I am not as bad as when I was younger (and by younger I mean even into college I was pretty bad) but my nails are not my greatest feature!

When people say to me “I will start Tuesday” those are words for FAILURE.  I cringe & try to explain why they should start NOW – TODAY – and NOT wait for Tuesday.  As they “wait” they let their habits get out of control & when Tuesday comes around the body will fight harder against eating clean & moving.  It will feel like a BIG SLUG for eating 5000 calories of crap & not moving a bit.  Why put yourself through that???!!

So I challenge you to start TODAY by cleaning up your eating & getting in an awesome workout that will fuel your energy for 2013.  It is going to be an amazing year & you don’t want to get left behind by waiting to start…

Sugar = Cancer??

The other night I was watching 60 Minutes & they were doing a special on how the intake of sugar CAUSES cancer!!!! SCARY! They went on to say that when you eat or drink sugar it immediately increases your insulin & feeds the tumor / cancer cells causing them to grow. It also talked about when a person eats / drinks sugar often it becomes as addictive as a cigarette causing your body to crave more & more which will in turn cause Type II Diabetes. The last thing they touched on was that sugar directly causes a rise in your LDL or “bad” cholesterol.

This is all very scary information & America is in trouble. Cut sugar out of your diet & eat the egg yolk to LOWER your cholesterol! To help your sweet cravings or night eating try the following:

*ACV in 8 oz water after your meals
*Brush & floss your teeth
*Take a walk
*Eat protein & healthy fat at each meal
*Go to bed early
*Allow yourself 1 date coconut roll per day
*Read a good book
*Close the kitchen after dinner

The first week is always the hardest. I CHALLENGE you to cut out all sugar & processed foods for 2 full weeks. It takes 30 days to make a habit so after your 2 weeks I challenge you to 2 more. You can do it and your body & health will thank you!!!

2 Small Changes…

2012 is upon us & a lot of you are probably reflecting on 2011 & deciding your goals for this exciting new year.  If you are upon your personal health & fitness goals and feel overwhelmed with where to start let me ease your anxiety by telling you all it takes is 2 small changes.  You don’t need to do an entire overhaul because guess what??  Chances are you won’t stick with it.  But if you just make 2 small changes for 30 consecutive days those 2 changes will become a habit.  Then you can tweak 1 or 2 more things until you are at your goal weight, your energy is soaring, you feel strong & confident & you are ready to maintain.

Examples:
*Cutting out sugar
*Cutting out WHITE everything (breads, pastas, sugar, flour, crackers…etc)
*Doing 20 air squats & 10 push-ups every morning before you shower
*Tossing the hazelnut & candy cane coffee creamer
*Stop eating after dinner
*Strength train 3 times per week (30 minute quick circuit will do!)
*Cut out ALL processed foods – anything that is packaged or has more than 2 or 3 ingredients
*Increase your GREENS – can you eat greens at all 3 meals???
*Try Amy’s Kale smoothie
*Try a new recipe from Amy Approved one time per week
*Limit alcohol intake to 2-3 drinks per week
*Sleep at least 7-9 hours per night
*Eat 1-2 Amy Approved snacks ONLY per day
*At dinner eat only a high quality protein source & a huge pile of veggies.  Skip the grains & dessert – not necessary!
*Hike at least once per week
*Find your perfect BALANCE
